Setting Goals is Self Care

You might be finding yourself in a little bit of a slump lately. We’re slowly creeping out of winter time but the temperamental weather isn’t quite giving fun loving vibes quite yet. It might feel like it’s hard to get motivated after Daylight Savings Time started up again. Instead of burying yourself under a blanket and hiding from the world, it might be time to make some new goals for yourself. Setting goals is not just important but essential for your well-being.

But, how can you set goals that are simple and attainable, even in the midst of your hectic schedule as a mom? Let's dive in!

First off, why are goals important? Well, they give us direction, purpose, and something to strive for beyond the daily grind of motherhood. Whether it's learning a new skill, prioritizing self-care, or pursuing a passion project, setting goals helps us grow as individuals and maintain our identity outside of being a mom.

Now, onto the fun part – setting those goals! Keep it simple. Break down your big dreams into smaller, manageable steps. Want to start a workout routine? Begin with just 10 minutes of exercise each day and gradually increase from there. By setting achievable milestones, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment with each step forward.

Another tip: make your goals specific and measurable. Instead of saying, "I want to read more," try "I will read one book per month." This way, you have a clear target to aim for, making it easier to track your progress and stay motivated.

But what about those moments when you feel like throwing in the towel? Don't worry, we've all been there. Here are some tricks to keep your mom mojo going strong:

  • Find a friend. Whether it's a fellow mom or a supportive friend, having someone to cheer you on can make all the difference. Share your goals with each other and hold each other accountable.

  • Celebrate small victories. Did you finally finish that DIY project you've been working on? Treat yourself to your favorite dessert or a quick trip to Target. Acknowledging your achievements, no matter how small, keeps the momentum going.

  • Visualize success. Create a vision board or jot down your goals in a journal. Seeing your aspirations written down can inspire you to keep pushing forward, even when the going gets tough.

  • Be kind to yourself.  Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are your goals. If you stumble along the way, don't beat yourself up. Embrace the journey, learn from setbacks, and keep moving forward.
